Spring into Color

It's spring! You said you wanted a change this year, we'll there is no time like the present! Color takes you from boring to beauty! No matter the length of your hair try color at some point this year.  Color adds versatility. It can be added all over at the nape, in the bang or at the crown of your head! 

April is wearing coffee brown highlights in her short style. 

Be sure to let a professional apply color to your hair. Your stylist will need to keep your hair conditioned, and use the proper color treated shampoo. In between visits do not use an abundance of heat. Be sure to keep your ends trimmed.

Gerri Styles My Hair- Short Hair Maintenance

My short hair is so much fun! However, it's a lot if work. Not what you would expect. Short hair is more maintenance!  I have to put in more work to keep my hair looking great! Gerri suggest that weekly maintenance is the best way to make my hair look it's best! Since I work out and need tips for daily maintenance Gerri suggests these tips:

- Wash your hair once a week. 

- Get treatments every two weeks. 

- Wear a satin band around your hair while working out. 

- Use a pomade with shine and moisture for sides when they begin to get dry. 

Product Recommendations:

Light Oil Sheen

HeatProtector 

Pomade

Wax

Light Holding Spray (depending on the style)

*Try not to use a lot of products with alcohol. 

Gerri Styles My Hair: Pin Curls

More installments of my short hair adventures! I am trying new things every week to see what looks I like best.  Who said short hair isn't fun and versatile?  Gerri used the pin curls on my hair because it is a protective style.  A Protective style is a style that does not use heat on your hair.  I use this protective style in between my visits to Gerri so I don't have to use heat on my hair.

To Style:

Shampoo your hair and use a moisturizing conditioner
Set the sides of your hair with a set foam and sit under the dyer
Once dry use a light serum
finger through your hair with a blow dryer for the top of your hair if it is still damp
Section your hair
Curl and pin as you curl.  Pinning your curl will set the curl, much like hot rollers.
At night before bed pin you hair in curls and sleep in a silk bonnet.

There is no need to use hairspray to maintain, it is a low maintenance hairstyle, provided you pin your hair every night.

Gerri Styles My Hair: Feathered bang

This week Gerri Styled My Hair for my TV taping.  I wanted something different so we went with a bang! Since my short cut happened in December, we have been experimenting with different short styles.  I've had short hair before, but I never changed my hairstyle so much.  Having a creative hairstylist is key to keeping the looks fresh and fun.

This was my inspiration:

This look is chic, sophisticated, and fashion-forward. I love the volume of the hair.  I might keep this look for a little while :)

To care for the hair: 

1. Wear a bonnet at night

2. In the morning, bump the hair lightly, finger through the hair with wax to give the hair the wispy effect.

Gerri Styles My Hair: Flair it Up!

Almost a month ago I did the big chop! Gerri has been giving me the greatest tips and advice to keep my hair fun! I wanted to explore with color but I didn't want to commit so my stylist, Gerri suggested I try a clip-in to experiment with color.

I loved this look from Melinda Williams and I wanted Gerri to style my hair using color in the bang.

I wanted to go for a punk inspired look so Gerri used an ombré effect with the red color. I love this and recommend anyone who is looking to add color but afraid of commitment to try it. Clip-ins add versatility, saves weak hair from damage, it's a great weekend look, it instantly adds volume to your hair!

Care Tips for clip-ins:

When washing be sure to use warm water, a lightweight shampoo and great moisturizing conditioner. Do not lather the clip-in but simply run your finger through the hair.  Comb hair from ends to top of the weft.  Lay flat on a towel to air dry.

Last week I asked if this retro sexy look is something I should try. You answered and I did it! I love it Gerri did a great job helping me to achieve this look.  Although finger waves are not a new idea it is definitely one that us short-haired girls need to try.

This look adds versatility to a short cut.  I like that it can be dressed up as seen here or dressed down. This a great special occasion look.

Inspired by the 20s it's vintage and very relevant in fashion right now.

Lightweight holding spray we used Sebastian

Gerri Styles My Hair: Finger Waves

Another  Beyonce album! We can't stop talking about how genius and creative Beyonce is.  Perhaps one of the biggest take aways from Mrs. Carter after the music is her looks in her 17 videos!  One of the things I wanted to do but was scared to try was fingerwaves.  Now that I have my new short cut I am looking for ways to keep it fun, edgy and stylish.  Check out Bey in this video, "Haunted" she is rocking... FINGERWAVES!  I called it and now it's offfical, I have to at least try finger waves with my short do!

This is a sexy look taken from the 20's it's very chic and edgy. I like the  way finger waves frame the face.

I think I will take the plunge and have Gerri style my hair in finger waves... what do you think is this a look that you would try with short hair?

Gerri Styles My Hair- Holiday Headbands for Short Hair

Now that I have my cut cut by Gerri, I wanted to know how I can style my new short look with all my fashion forward head pieces.  Holiday parties are coming soon and I wanted to rock this headband from Flaunt Boutiqe in Apex. It's called the Gatsby and it's $29.00 and super chic.  Gerri says it's easy and super trendy to wear a headband with a short cut.  Gerri says the trick is to place the headband over longer bangs and style. Cover the rest of the elastic with your hair.  It's great if you can find a headband that is the same color of your hair!

This short style is perfectly coiffed with this jazzy headband.

Michelle Williams looks cute and trendy with her headband over her pixie cut.

Add a jeweled headband to dress up your hair, play up your make up and go small  and dainty with the earrings and other jewelry.

Pixie cuts are the new stunning look for 2014!! It can be worn several different ways from fringed, Straight, curly, with bangs, away from the face, and wavy. I made the decision to go boss lady style for 2014 and I asked Gerri to Style My Hair! Gerri is really good at short hairstyles she knows how to make a pixie cut funky!

The pixie cut can be achieved by a quick weave, sew-in, or with your own natural hair!! If you just want to try this look for a weekend, or  special occasion you should definitely  go with the quick weave method. The  quick weave method can be done on cap to protect the hair and laid very smoothly to achieve any short look you want.  The pixie cut is a very simple, chic, and versatile. This hairstyle that’s very easy to maintain.
