How to Detangle Hair

Tangled hair is the worst thing to have and trying to get them out can be a headache. The first thing you want to do is make sureyou use a conditioner after shampooing your hair. Then apply a leave conditioner on the ends of your hair and massage it throughout the hair.  Next you will use a wide tooth comb and begin combing from the ends to the roots. If you are styling your hair while it’s dry make sure you apply a serum to the ends and then use your wide tooth comb.  If you have this problem frequently you want to make sure you use a detangling shampoo, followed by your moisturizing conditioner, then yourleave-in conditioner, and deep condition treatments every two weeks.

Spring into Color

It's spring! You said you wanted a change this year, we'll there is no time like the present! Color takes you from boring to beauty! No matter the length of your hair try color at some point this year.  Color adds versatility. It can be added all over at the nape, in the bang or at the crown of your head! 

April is wearing coffee brown highlights in her short style. 

Be sure to let a professional apply color to your hair. Your stylist will need to keep your hair conditioned, and use the proper color treated shampoo. In between visits do not use an abundance of heat. Be sure to keep your ends trimmed.

Romantic Waves

Ladies Valentines is almost here and we want to keep it hot, and sexy for this passionate day. I challenge you to try Romantic Waves in your hair. This look works well on any face shape. I want to try to help you create this look in many different ways at home.  

If you have natural hair take your hair and do doublestrand twist to the back of your hair as if you’re doing a cornrow, and use a rod to curl the ends, leave it in overnight and in the morning you will be ready for your day. 

If you are wearing long hair extension, or have longer length hair, straight or relaxed hair. Part your hair in 2 inch sections starting from the nape. Next you will wrap the hair around the curling wand and hold for 10 seconds. After you have completed the entire head you should have your beautiful lustrous body waves!!

Organix  Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum

If you looking for a great, affordable serum that will decrease the breaking of your hair, this is a great serum to use. Not only does it help with breakage, it also helps control frizziness, adds moisture, and strengthens weak brittle and damaged hair. When using this product you want to make sure that your hair has been shampooed and conditioned and take a small amount and apply from roots to ends.

Thirsty Scalp

Its winter time and your scalp tend to flake and be dry a little more. Things to consider is drinking more water, covering your hair at night with a satin bonnet, using moisturizing/hydrating shampoos, massaging your scalp with oil twice a week. Treatments recommended are: Hair Masque, Hot Oil Treatments, Deep Moisture Conditioner.

 

Two Natural Treatments for help:

Make a deep treatment with mayonnaise. Mayonnaise is made essentially out of eggs and oil, so it's a riff on the deep treatment featured in Step 1. What sets mayonnaise apart is that it contains vinegar. Vinegar will help disinfect any fungus or bacteria that might be using your scalp as a temporary home, causing itching and dryness.

Apply 1/2 cup of mayonnaise to already dry hair. Massage into roots and scalp area and cover with a shower cap or other plastic cover.

Let stand for 15 minutes.

Rinse thoroughly in warm water before shampooing as usual

Tea Tree oil. Tea tree oil is renowned for its anti-bacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties, making it an excellent option for fighting dry scalp and the effects of dry hair. Tea tree oil smells great, moisturizes even better, and should be considered by anyone who is serious about treating dry scalp.

•

Use tea tree oil in your conditioner. Buy tea tree oil in essential oil form and simply add a tablespoon or so into your conditioner. This is a fast and inexpensive way to fortify your conditioner.

Find products that contain tea tree oil as an ingredient. Many shampoos and conditioners contain tea tree oil. Make sure you find one that is gentle and suited to your 

hair type

Gerri Styles My Hair- Short Hair Maintenance

My short hair is so much fun! However, it's a lot if work. Not what you would expect. Short hair is more maintenance!  I have to put in more work to keep my hair looking great! Gerri suggest that weekly maintenance is the best way to make my hair look it's best! Since I work out and need tips for daily maintenance Gerri suggests these tips:

- Wash your hair once a week. 

- Get treatments every two weeks. 

- Wear a satin band around your hair while working out. 

- Use a pomade with shine and moisture for sides when they begin to get dry.

Natural Transition

Transitioning from relaxed hair to natural hair is a frequent asked question. Many want to know should they cut it off or continue to grow it out. These two choices depend on the preference of the person. If you decide to just grow it out over a period of time you want to stay on top of your hair trims, and treatments. Treatment should be done every two weeks, and cold wash once a week with an intense moisturizer. When choosing this option you really get to learn how to manage your hair and what product will work well for it. Doing the big chop is a very dramatic experience, but the great thing is you get to experience the natural curl pattern growing out evenly. Some issue you maystruggle with during the process is tangling, hair breakage and split ends. But Consider conditioning more, moisturizers, and using oils daily. Products that have proteins, silicones and mineral oils are great for your hair.

Gerri Styles My Hair: Retro French Twist

For the first time in my life I am enjoying my short hair journey. Typically by now, I would have grown tired of it and slapped a weave in my hair! Gerri does a great job of showing me different short styles. 

This week, Retro French Twist! I love this look. It's perfect for work, special occasion, or a casual look. It's low maintenance with high impact.

This product is great to use after you have received a Keratin Treatment at the Salon. This Treatment will continue to help control the frizzing and is easy on color-treated hair. Follow after a Keratin Shampoo.  Apply from root to ends evenly throughout your hair. Leave on 5 minutes. Rinse then style as desired

Hair Advice for Thinning Edges

Thinning Edges are a result from many things: genetics, stress, medications, tension, and age, to name a few. Scalp infections, and styling your hair in styles that cause excessive tension can lead to thinning edges. Bacteria on the scalp clogs your hair follicles and will not allow the hair to grow. So it is very important to have scalp treatments, and remove dandruff from scalp to open hair follicles to increase hair growth. Scalp manipulation, and  massaging the thin areas help  increase the blood circulation. A few things you can use is Castor oil, peppermint oil, rosemary, and products that contain Vitamin E and Sulfur 8. The more scalp manipulation the better!!

Last week I asked if this retro sexy look is something I should try. You answered and I did it! I love it Gerri did a great job helping me to achieve this look.  Although finger waves are not a new idea it is definitely one that us short-haired girls need to try.

This look adds versatility to a short cut.  I like that it can be dressed up as seen here or dressed down. This a great special occasion look.
